CEDI Europe equips the University of Guyana’s new Medical Sciences facility

CEDI Europe has successfully completed a major project for the supply and installation of anatomical models, medical simulators, and laboratory equipment to the newly commissioned College of Medical Sciences at the University of Guyana. This project marks a significant step forward in the country’s healthcare and higher education development and was officially inaugurated by President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali.

Guyana Education Sector Improvement Project (GESIP)

Our contribution was executed under the Guyana Education Sector Improvement Project (GESIP), a national initiative supported by the World Bank. GESIP aims to enhance the quality of Guyana’s higher education, particularly in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), and focuses on modernizing learning environments, expanding access to education, and aligning the education system with Guyana’s broader national development goals.

Rapid emergency delivery

In view of the urgency of this project, CEDI Europe executed a fast-tracked logistics operation to ensure all equipment was delivered before the end of April 2025. Through rerouting, repacking, and coordinated logistics, all nearly 90 items were successfully delivered to the University of Guyana within a very tight timeframe.

Strong collaboration

A key factor in this successful delivery was our close partnership with a leading global manufacturer of medical and scientific education equipment. This collaboration enabled us to provide an extensive range of high-quality anatomical models and simulators, offering students immersive, hands-on experiences that stimulate real-world clinical scenarios.

Scope of supply

As part of this project, CEDI Europe supplied a comprehensive range of medical education tools and laboratory equipment, including but not limited to:

Anatomical models and simulators:

  • Plastinated cadavers – durable, lifelike specimens for detailed anatomical study
  • Human trauma simulators – including anatomically correct head and torso models
  • Advanced venipuncture training arms – for realistic IV, IM, and subcutaneous injection training
  • Colonoscopy training models – for hands-on endoscopic procedure training
  • Pediatric intubation models – for practicing airway management in children
  • Neonatal IV simulators – for infant venous access training
  • Sequential anatomy programs – for comprehensive anatomical education
  • Patient care simulators – supporting multidisciplinary diagnostic and procedural training

Laboratory equipment:

  • Teaching microscopes and histology/embryology slide sets
  • Fluorescence microscopes
  • Large and small autoclaves
  • CO2 incubators
  • Centrifuges
  • Class Il biosafety cabinets

Commissioning and training

In early April, a formal handover ceremony, covered by local newspapers and the Ministry of Education, marked the delivery of the first few batches of items. End-users received comprehensive training, ensuring immediate integration of the new equipment into the educational program. The last few shipments followed shortly thereafter. This operation was made possible through the dedication and support of CEDI Europe’s local agent.

Enhancing the future of healthcare in Guyana

This project directly supports the Government of Guyana’s goal to expand and modernize healthcare education nationwide. With the new College of Medical Sciences equipped, the University of Guyana is able to train the next generation of healthcare professionals. CEDI Europe is proud to have contributed to this transformative initiative.
